Engineering cutaway of the CleanBot R1 suction turbine — the first of eight safety layers that keep it locked to the glass

CleanBot R1: 8-Layer Safety System Fully Explained

Layer 1: 6,500Pa Gravity-Lock Suction

Same suction force used in industrial vacuum lifters that hold 80kg glass panes. Creates a holding force many times the robots 1.1kg weight.

Layer 2: 500mAh Backup Battery

Maintains full suction for 30 minutes if mains power cuts. No other robot in this price range has independent power backup for suction.

Layer 3: Suction Alarm

Pressure sensors monitor grip continuously. Alarm triggers before any movement risk if grip weakens.

Layer 4: 150kg Safety Tether

Mechanical last resort connected to window frame. Has never been the thing that caught a robot — suction handles it. But it is there.

Layer 5: Four-Corner Infrared Edge Detection

Detects window edges, frames and handles on all four corners. Will not drive off the edge of the glass.

Layer 6: Obstacle Avoidance

Routes around frames, trickle vents and fixtures in real time.

Layer 7: Gyroscope Stabiliser

Corrects tilt up to 10 degrees. Keeps suction seal flush on thermally expanded glass.

Layer 8: High-Friction Silicone Pads

Secondary friction contact independent of the suction motor.
